Smith running for sheriff on credentials
Craven County Sheriff Candidate Eric Smith, running as a Democrat, says he will “come out swinging with the truth,” for his second run for sheriff.
Smith promises a campaign based on truth, his background and credentials. He said he plans to “hit the ground running,” if elected.
“If I don’t tell you what I know, it’s like lying,” he said. “My qualifications are there and people look at those. People look at the candidates and say ‘I like him,’ but that’s not enough. The sheriff’s office needs a professional law enforcement officer.
“Community involvement is great; I have that too, but what about law enforcement training? You wouldn’t look to your best friend to perform surgery on you, you look for a doctor — just like you look for the most qualified law enforcement officer to be the sheriff.”
Smith’s public service began in 1969, when he enlisted into the Marine Corps as an infantryman. He was quickly promoted to a tank commander during the Vietnam War.
